Southside Johnny: I Don't Want To Go Home
Martin Warne's fave fave tunes are all first timers...and all excellent tracks that others will remember or listen to for the first time.
And they are so good that many will probably appear again.
I Don’t Want to Go Home: Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes
Just a great rock track. The title expresses a sentiment I might well feel when the time comes!
Montague Terrace (in blue): Scott Walker
I got into Scott Walker at university and this is my favourite song from the Fire Escape in the Sky compilation. The opening lines give a flavour of the piece - “The little clock's stopped ticking now/We're swallowed in the stomach room/The only sound to tear the night/Comes from the man upstairs”.
Rosalita: Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band
I just love Springsteen. Again, this is my favourite song, from his second album – before he really hit the big time with Born to Run.
Great Gig in the Sky: Pink Floyd
Stunning vocal improvisation and a truly magnificent piece of music.
Walk This Way: Run DMC & Aerosmith
Perhaps an odd choice, but this song is associated with a particularly great night for me. This was the ‘walk on’ music when the band I was in came on stage for our best ever gig, at the Rock Garden in Covent Garden. It always makes me smile when I hear it now.
