Don't leave property empty
Don’t ignore the problems and opportunities of a property being empty because of a bereavement or someone going into care.
When a relative dies or has to go into care, one of the issues often faced by the family is the empty property that is left behind.
If action isn't taken the property becomes neglected, which makes the costs of maintenance and repair greater.
Neglected properties could be targeted by criminals.
Squatters may move in or vandals cause damage.
Thanks to the increasing number of letting websites, dealing with vacated property can be done quickly and efficiently.
And it means the property, or properties, become a welcome source of income that could pay towards the cost of a funeral or care.
If you are planning ahead, think about how you want to deal with your property.
It is something you should discuss with other members of the family, and possibly include it in your instructions to your executor that you put in your Lifebox.
